Threat of Unlicensed Contractors

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

The threat is increasing especially in states like Minnesota where there is required licensing fees and bonds that protect the work of the contractors. Many unlicensed contractors are able to coax people into buying their service for a much lower rate. They are able to offer a lower rate since they have not paid any licensing fees and typically don’t carry worker’s compensation insurance or any form of liability. Before you accept some random service from anyone make sure you check to see if they are certified, licensed and insured. For a certified and licensed HVAC dealer Call WestAIR Heating and Cooling today!

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

If you own a home, cabin or apartment without built in duct work; air conditioning is still not out of reach. Lucky for you WestAIR installs and services ductless air conditioners. The installation process is easy and there is no duct work needed. One great advantage is that with a ductless AC there is a zoning capability that allows for only occupied spaces to be conditioned instead of the entire house. Multiple areas may also be conditioned with mini splits or dual, tri and quad zones. Not sure if a ductless system is right for your home? Call WestAIR Heating and Cooling today for a free estimate.

Energy Savings Tips-Cooling your Home

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Focus on energy saving tips for keeping your home cool this summer. Don’t wait until that 100 degree day to decide that you need to find efficient ways to save energy and keep your home cool. You can start NOW by considering a few different options and see which one(s) fit your best interests.

Things you can do NOW:
Schedule a Check and Clean for your Air Conditioner.
– Keep blinds or curtains closed during the day to reflect unwanted heat from entering through windows.
– Program your setback thermostat for home and away ****
-Check on summer savings programs with your utility company.

Options to consider:
– Upgrading to a High Efficiency Air Conditioner.
– Planting deciduous trees in an area that will shade your home.
– Insulate, weather-strip and caulk. Having your attic properly insulated is extremely important to eliminating unwanted heat in the summer.
– New roof or exterior paint? Keep in mind that darker colors absorb heat way more than lighter colors. Maybe consider something that is neutral.

Tune-up tips boil down to three basic components: longer equipment life, lower costs and more energy efficient. Spring is the perfect time for a tune up. Let our trained technicians at WestAIR inspect and clean your heating and cooling system and identify any potential problems it may have. Keeping the system clean and up to date will prevent costly future breakdowns. The regular maintenance extends the life of your equipment for more savings and avoiding replacement. An efficiently running system also lowers energy costs!

We also offer a low-cost Planned Service and Maintenance Agreement. Under the Service-Maintenance plan we remind you when it’s time for a tune up. Our office assistants call you and schedule a time that works best for you for our technicians to come out and tune-up your system.  Don’t wait until summer, that may be too late.

  • Utility costs become too high.
  • Equipment is 15+ years old, this includes: furnace, a/c, condenser and coil.
  • You plan on living in your home for more than 2 years.
  • Efficiency ratings are out-of- date. We have put together an efficiency ratings chart to help you.

How to lower your cooling costs this summer?

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Here at WestAIR we provide the quality service you expect, inside your home and out. There are three simple things that you can do in your home without having to call a technician.

  1. Keep the Sun Out: Bright afternoon sunlight that shines through your windows can increase your costs up to 30 percent. Two options that you can consider are: to either place light-reflective film on them or close blinds and curtains at different times of the day depending on where the most light/heat is coming in.
  2. Analyze Your Thermostat Settings: During the three main summer months, cooling costs can contribute to 50 percent or more of your total utility costs. Consider keeping your thermostat at 77 degrees instead of 70 degrees. This can only help you save money.
  3. Furnace Filters: Remember to change your furnace filter monthly (even in the summer) to maintain the efficiency of your furnace AND air conditioner.

These are just three simple things that you can do today to help save money!!
