New Year; New Filter!

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

The start of a new year is a great reminder to change your furnace air filter.

A filter removes dust and dander from the air we breathe in our homes, and eventually becomes laden with dirty particles. Build-up reduces the efficiency of your furnace, making the fan work harder and shortening the lifespan of your unit.

The frequency of changing your air filter depends on several factors including how many people live in your home, how many pets reside there, if it’s a smoking home, or if you live in a particularly dusty area. The more various factors are present, the more frequently you’ll need to replace your filter. WestAIR Heating & Cooling suggests a replacement schedule of 30 to 60 days (for 1″ filter) or annually (for air cleaner filter).

We have a variety of humidifier and air cleaner filters in stock and ready for shipment:

  • Aprilaire model 550 Humidifier
  • Aprilaire model 560/600 Humidifier
  • Honeywell model 220 Humidifier
  • Aprilaire model 2200
  • Aprilaire model 2410
  • Honeywell Air Cleaner
  • Trion Air Bear Air Cleaner
  • York Air Cleaner

It’s Time to Change Your Air Filter!

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Following up from last week’s post on benefits of a Whole House Air Purifier to help with alleviating stubborn allergies, we want to give a friendly reminder to change your furnace air filters! A simple and yet extremely effective way to help keep the air in your home clean and keep your system running smoothly. Here’s a few reasons why changing your HVAC or furnace filter is so important:

  • A dirty filter slows down the air flow and in turn makes your system run harder to keep your home cool (or warm in the winter months). This not only wastes energy, but it also drives up your energy bill.
  • Changing your filter can also increase the life of your HVAC system for similar reasons. If the system doesn’t have to work so hard to push air through, it can run for a lot longer. A clean filter can also prevent dust and buildup from clogging your system, which can lead to expensive repairs.
  • But most importantly, a clean filter helps to keep you and your family healthy. By changing your HVAC or furnace filter on a regular basis you help improve your home’s indoor air quality by eliminating dust, mold, pollen, spores, and other pesky contaminants that can worsen allergies and asthma or potentially cause sickness.

Many filters these days are washable or replaceable.  Not sure what your system takes? Call WestAIR Heating & Cooling to learn more about changing out your HVAC air filters. We always have air filters in stock and are happy to help you with any questions you may have. Call us today at 763.498.8071

Suffering from Allergies? Try a whole house air purifier.

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Yay! Summer is right around the corner! Time for boating, camping, hiking, gardening, and…. allergies. If you suffer from allergies, you understand the misery it can bring on. Your home should be one place for you to find comfort and relief. But is it? Or are you still suffering from those pesky allergies even in the comfort of your living room?

Now is the time to try a whole house air purifier. AND WestAIR is running a special on installation!  A whole house air purifier can help to eliminate the dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and even bacteria from every room in your home, creating a clean, peaceful, allergy free environment. Ahhh….

Unlike portable units that just purify one room of your home, a whole house air purifier from Aprilaire is installed as part of  your home’s heating and cooling system, which allows the purifier to work in every room, creating a clean, fresh and safe place for you and your family all year long.

These air purifiers can not only help with relieving allergies, they can also help with asthma and other respiratory symptoms. This quote from the American Lung Association pretty much sums it up:

“Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. In addition, it can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People who already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk.” -American Lung Association

Call WestAIR today at 763-498-8071 for your free consultation. And don’t forget to check our website for a $25 off coupon for installation of a whole house air purifier from Aprilaire.

Indoor Air Quality in the Twin Cities Area, MN

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Many people think that the air inside their home or workplace is cleaner than the air outside. However, in the majority of situations this is not the case. The air indoors at times is not as fresh as outdoor air and may be polluted with things such as dust mites, pet dander, mold, aerosols and bacteria. These such things may cause allergies, dry or runny nose, itchy eyes and throat or headaches.

It is important that we take the necessairy steps to be concerned with the quaility of the air that we breathe just as we are with the food that we put into our bodies. The best solution for indoor air quiality is proper ventilation which can be satisfied with an air exchanger from WestAIR. For more details and information please visit our website to read more on air exchangers.

Carbon Monoxide Safety

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas that can be extremely toxic at high levels. It can be emitted from a number of different household appliances that burn fossil fuels. To ensure that you and your family are safe there are two big steps that should be taken for complete protection. First you should install a CO detector. This is just as important as a smoke detector, but senses a different substance. With the installation you should be sure to check it monthly to ensure that the alarm is working properly. The second thing that should be done is have one of WestAIRs qualified technicians come and inspect your home heating system at least once every year. Call to schedule a complete check and clean of your heating system.

Allergies and Air Cleaners

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

With spring here early and being chased away by summer weather, allergy season has jumped out sooner than expected. You may not realize it, but indoor air may be significantly more polluted than outdoor air. In this case of pollution due to pollen, dust, pet dander and mold. If anyone in your family suffers from allergies in the spring or even anytime of the year, ask yourself these questions…

  • Do I turn my thermostat to the ON position when cleaning such as vacuuming and/or dusting? (If not then next time remember this crucial step. This way the air will be circulated and cleaned through your systems filter)
  • When was the last time I replaced my air filter?
(Standard filters should be changed every month, Air Cleaner filters once or twice a year. Call us or order a new one on our website under the Buy Filters tab)
  • Are any of the vents closed or blocked in my home? (If yes then this may be the cause of allergies from build up. Leave them open at all times, closed vents can also lead to compressor failure)
  • Do I have a High Efficiency Air Cleaner installed in my home? (If not, possibly consider the benefits and options, call for pricing and installation)
  • When was the last time my system had a tune up? (Recommended annually after the first three years in service. Now is the time to schedule)

Humidifiers for Your Health and Home Health

Posted on by WestAIR Heating & Cooling

With winter finally set in you or other family members may be experiencing health symptoms such as: dry or sore throat, dry skin and runny noses. These symptoms sometimes lead to colds or the flu.

You may be wondering why does this always happen during the winter months here in Minnesota? The answer is dry air! During the  winter the air is much colder than it is in the summer. Because of this it is not able to hold as much moisture or any at all. All of the moisture has been sucked out of the air and froze.

This happens in our homes because the air is trapped inside.  The amount of air flow is very low since we don’t open our windows during the winter. The solution to all these dry air problems is a humidifier.  An inline whole house Aprilaire humidifier helps maintain the moisture levels within your home.  Thus creating a comfortable and healthy atmosphere for you and your family.

Aprilaire 600a

At WestAIR heating we proudly install Aprilaire whole house humidifiers.  This is the better option over a portable humidifier. Why? Whole house humidifiers have the ability to automatically control your entire homes humidity levels 24/7 with a continuous automatic digital control, annual minimal maintenance required and energy savings.

Specials are available if you schedule your installation with other furnace or Indoor Air Quality services. Call us today to schedule a simple installation of an energy saving Whole-Home Humidifier.
